Building Campaign for Scouting Ministry
Hopefully you will be able to witness the Scouts from our Scouting Ministry assembled in front of their Scout Hut within the next year. The metal barn on our new property has been turned over to the Scouting Ministry for their renovation and use. Troop 1114 has taken the lead and has established a building committee and has begun developing a plan for the building as well as a fundraising plan to do the work.
In order to keep costs down, this effort is being planned as a remodeling that will stay within the existing footprint of the barn. We envision replacing the damaged metal on the outside of the barn while we insulate and seal the inside. Our hope is to end up with a building that is both presentable and functional for the Scouts.
The Troop has already had the inside of the barn cleaned out and will begin the remaining work as funds are available. Some exciting news that we have received is a large corporate donation for matching funds. We have a benefactor who will match dollar for dollar up to $25,000. With this $50,000 potential, we can come very close to finishing this project with the volunteer labor that we have.
We will not directly solicit donations from the congregation, although we will not turn down any donations. We are hoping to contact local businesses and companies that our Scout leaders and Scout parents work. If you know of opportunities for donations that we should take advantage of, please let me know.
This promises to be an exciting yet difficult undertaking. Most of us who were Scouts as youth have fond memories of our “Scout Huts”. We hope to give our Scouts these same memories as we strive to install the values of Scouting into these young men and young ladies (Venture Crew).
