We’re so glad you are here at Magnolia UMC. We are excited to let you know about the many events and opportunities we have for you and your family here at the church. We want to provide a safe place where students can have fun while learning about:

  1. God’s loving forgiveness and salvation through the cross;
  2. How to have an active and daily relationship with Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit;
  3. And our heritage as Christians.

Our Inspiration

As leaders, parents, and youth our inspiration is Joshua 1:9, “Be Strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord God is with you wherever you go.” By itself, this is an encouraging promise. It speaks to the sometimes difficult journey we have as followers of Christ. But this scripture should be seen in its context. God promised His people an inheritance, freedom, a land, and rest. And yet, their inheritance was stolen and they were enslaved in Egypt. God rescued them and led them to claim their inheritance but one generation was unwilling, too afraid. It was up to the young who were not afraid and had never known slavery to be courageous. Now, Christians have a spiritual inheritance. An inheritance better than land. A freedom greater than swords or politics can win. That inheritance is eternal life with Christ and it begins now.

A Word from Pastor Mark

“We look forward to reaching youth in our church and our city for the gospel and raising up a new generation of Christian servant leaders. This is a future that matters to God and so it matters to us. 1st Timothy 4:12 says, “Let no one despise your youth; instead, you should be an example to the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in fact, in purity.” We are excited about raising our kids in a beautiful Christian environment that gives them the spiritual tools to engage life and succeed and be that example of faith.”   —Mark Welshimer, Pastor Magnolia UMC

Director of Youth and Children’s Ministries

My name is Joshua Jones. I was led to the Lord by my loving Christian parents at the age of nine. I am a 7th generation Texan. I moved to Houston in 2011 to attend Houston Baptist University where I met my beautiful wife, Rebecca. We have a little boy named Jeremiah whom we love and cherish. When I graduated from HBU, the Lord totally changed my career direction and led me to the ministry. I couldn’t be more glad that he did.        Blessings, Joshua Jones
